Norfolkline names MAERSK DOVER
2nd December 2006
On 2 December 2006, Norfolkline’s new Ro-Pax vessel was named at the Port of Dover in United Kingdom. Janet Ladyman, accompanied by her husband, Stephen Ladyman, Minister of State for Transport, honoured Norfolkline by naming the newbuilding MAERSK DOVER.
MAERSK DOVER is the third of three state-of-the-art, Scandinavian designed vessels, for which Norfolkline received the ShipPax award for Outstanding Ferry Concept.
The vessels are built to provide superior service across the channel and within a crossing time of just 1 hour and 45 minutes between Dover and Dunkerque, passengers can travel in spacious comfort, have a leisurely meal and relax in a lounge bar and other areas especially designed for motorists and freight passengers.
The vessels have a capacity for 200 cars, 780 passengers and up to 120 freight vehicles and a service speed of 25 knots.
MAERSK DOVER will be operating on the Dover-Dunkerque route, sailing under the British flag, and will be commanded by Captain David Gouldsmith with Mark Howard as Chief Engineer.
