May 8th 2007

On May 2nd Norfolkline's CEO, Thomas Woldbye, gave a presentation at the center for maritime economics and logistics (MEL) of Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

The presentation was to the graduating batch of 2007 from MEL and was part of the “Distinguished Lecture Series".

The presentation was entitled “Lean, green, transportation machine” and addressed the nature of challenges and opportunities facing Short-sea shipping with a special focus on RoRo transportation.

In his presentation Mr. Woldbye quoted the European Commission's assessment that:

"Short Sea Shipping is an environmentally friendly initiative to reduce the number of road miles, reduce bottlenecks and promote inter-modality and regional development of Short Sea routes"

Environmental concerns are a top priority for many customers, European union and the transportation industry. Short sea shipping industry might help to support in the green initiatives of European Union by taking away some of the excessive pressure on road transportation.

The presentation was well received by the students and the picture shows Mr. Woldbye rounding up his presentation to the audience of postgraduate students and invited guests.
