Norfolkline Logistics launch online booking for transport of goods on its pan-European logistics network

THE HAGUE, APRIL 17TH 2009

Norfolkline, part of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group and one of Europe’s leading door-to-door transportation service providers, has launched online booking facilities for transport of goods on Norfolkline’s pan-European logistics network.

Norfolkline operates logistics services from locations across Europe (UK & Ireland, Scandinavia, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland), providing ambient and refrigerated transportation of packed goods by road, rail, and sea.

Online booking is a free value-added-service, available to all Norfolkline Logistics division’s customers, and has been designed to save Norfolkline’s customers time (and money) by making it easier & quicker to use than booking by FAX/email/telephone. Online booking also reduces errors made due to rekeying of information or interpretation, and automated notification of changes in shipment status reduces the number of contacts required between the customer’s operational staff and Norfolkline.

Online booking is available at the Norfolkline Logistics website (www.norfolklinelogistics.com) as part of the “Customer support” section, and allows customers to make booking requests, copy previous bookings as templates for new bookings, make amendments to bookings prior to collection, track the progress of their bookings, and get a complete overview of the bookings they have made with Norfolkline. It is easy to search for, or browse, to find a specific booking and the status of up to 20 bookings to be reviewed at a glance.

Each customer’s booking request form is customized to their requirements. For example the customer’s most frequently used collection and delivery points are preconfigured, options such as whether temperature controlled/hazardous transport is required are made available when relevant to the customer, and cargo details can be defaulted to the customer’s most frequently occurring values.

In view of the international nature of Norfolkline Logistics division’s business the portal is available in a variety of languages (English, French, German, Dutch, Danish, Italian or Spanish), with further language options planned subject to demand.

Eddie Green, Managing Director Norfolkline Logistics division commented:
“Online booking is a further development of our electronic services which already provide electronic invoicing and statements of account. This initiative is another step toward the goal of making business easier by simplifying the mundane processes and freeing up time to deal with the more important customer related issues.”

Declan Walsh, eBusiness Manager at Norfolkline commented:
“Our customer satisfaction surveys have shown us that many of our customers want to be able to book online, and we have responded to this. For some customers online booking will not be the most efficient option, but for many it will allow them to achieve operational efficiencies in their organizations and help improve their bottom line in these challenging times.
Customer feedback when piloting online booking was vital in ensuring that their requirements were met, and by listening to our customers we want to make online booking the preferred booking mechanism for a substantial part of our customer base.”
